FAMILY VOICE OBSERVES NATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY-2013

Family Voice also capitalizes on international and national events like the International Children’s day, International Women’s day, Father’s day, Mother’s day and National Women’s day to advance its awareness initiative. Since 2001, National Women’s day has been celebrated with more participation from the community up until this year.
POSITIVE DISCIPLINE TRAINING FOR EHP TEACHERS

A first ever positive discipline training for teachers in the Unggai-Bena district of Eastern Highlands Province was held on the 4th-6th of June 2013. The training was run by Eastern Highlands Family Voice (EHFV) in partnership with the Unggai-Bena district administration. The positive discipline program was developed by Dr. Joan Durrant,PhD, a child– clinical psychologist and professor of family and social sciences at the University of Manitoba, Canada.
FAMILY VOICE STAFF RECEIVE TRAINING ON BASIC COUNSELING

Counselling is a special skill which one cannot acquire overnight. It is an expertise where a trained person can only carry out and listen to problems of clients and advise them accordingly.
A training on basic counselling for children was held in March this year in which 5 staff from Family Voice had the opportunity to attend.
SURVIVOR’S WORKSHOP A SUCCESS
A survivor’s workshop was conducted by Family Voice last month under the Women’s program which brought in a total of 35 participants from Unggai-Bena, Goroka, Okapa and Henganofi districts. They were taken through sessions on HIV/AIDS, STIs, money & time management and positive discipline. These group of women were selected from Family Voice’s survivor’s list of women who had come in for our counseling service and shared the same kind of issues that was affecting them.
SAVE THE CHILDREN DONATES VEHICLE TO FAMILY VOICE
Save the Children PNG is one of those organizations that has been a pillar for Family Voice in its infancy stage up until last year where Family Voice was able to operate on its own. In its continued support to Family Voice, Save the Children donated a Nissan patrol vehicle after a Board meeting on May 31st 2013. The vehicle’s key was officially handed over to Family Voice’s Board acting chairperson Mr. Walter Nombe.
